The 2022 Genesis G70 is a sport sedan that offers luxury, value and excitement in equal measures. This award-winning, highly ranked luxury sport sedan is a favorite among automotive journalists and driving enthusiasts.
Here’s what you need to know about the 2022 model year, G70 trim levels, engine choices, and other aspects. Keep scrolling to find what is most important to your lifestyle.
An Established Track Record for Excellence
Whether you look at this model year or the previous model years, you’ll find that the G70 gets high marks again and again in national car reviews. From winning Motor Trend Car of the Year to now, each update has earned praise and high ratings.
2022 Genesis G70 ranks in the top three in its class at US News. It is known for its posh interior, impressive handling, and user-friendly infotainment system. Car and Driver gives it a 9 out of 10 and names it to the Editor’s Choice list.
Furthermore, the 2022 G70 drove away with a Top Safety Pick designation. This is based on crash testing and other criteria at the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Exterior Redesign
For 2022, the G70 has been redesigned in every area to enhance its ability to deliver on its promise of athletic driving. This car is all about excitement and capability.
The redesigned 2022 edition has a lower grille with interesting design lines leading the eye toward it. The total effect mimics a sprinter in position to start a race. This more aggressive front end is flanked by Quad LED headlights that have been refined for looks and function. Quad LED tail lights, a compact bumper design and a raised trunk lid add to the overall shapeliness.
Interior Style
The 2022 Genesis G70 has been designed with the driver’s needs in mind as well as the passengers. At first glance, the driver-centric cockpit is clearly ergonomically designed without too much clutter and with everything close at hand or easy to see.
This high-tech approach, however, is blended into the sophistication of the vehicle’s refined aesthetic. The design lines are fluid and unique. The luxury is clear in every material and how the individual pieces create a cohesive whole. The fit and finish help establish the feeling of opulence that is conveyed from every seating position.
Smooth Nappa leather is offered in a variety of quilted patterns with a choice of color contrasts to make the interiors spark. The leatherette standard upholstery is offered in a choice of black or gray. Leathers come in several colors including a burgundy which can finish the upper dash in leather.
Trim Levels and Packages
With so many standards, the Genesis G70 2.0T may be all you need. There’s standard leatherette or available leather upholstery. The front seats are power-adjustable and power-heated.
Dual-zone climate controls and a 10.25-inch touch screen are on the dash. Drivers can use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for connectivity. Safety features include forward collision warnings, emergency autobrake, side collision protections, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and more.
The 2.0T Prestige adds a package of exciting features. There’s rich leather upholstery and a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system. Other features include a wireless charger, front/rear parking sensors and a sunroof.
The high-powered Genesis G70 3.3T has the twin-turbo V6 engine and a sport suspension. The cabin dresses in leather. The 3.3T Sport Advanced package adds ventilated seats, the 15-speaker Lexicon system, and parking tech.
With the 3.3T Sport Prestige, the package upgrades to Nappa leather. Additional tech includes a surround view camera and a head up display. Sport features include a limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes.
For more capability, the 3.3T Launch Edition is on the menu. Highlights include its distinctive styling accents inside and out.
Performance and Capability
Engine output is generous with 255 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. To make the 252 HP system more efficient, engineers redesigned the turbo turbine wheel, reducing its size to improve spool-up. This measure results in better low-end torque for 2022 models. Efficiency is further accomplished through the use of motor-driven intake variable valve timing and a 2-stage relief oil pump.
Rear wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. If you step up to the 3.3T RWD model, a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD) is added. If you choose the 2.0T, you can choose the LSD as an option. This device increases torque capacity, keeps noise and vibrations in check, and improves handling for a more exciting experience behind the wheel.
With its superior engine, the 3.3T RWD can rush from 0-to-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The single scroll twin turbo leads its class with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.
Special Transmissions, Launch Control and Active Sound Design
A special 8-speed automatic transmission was developed to compliment the performance and fuel economy of these sport sedans. It has rev-matching technology to improve efficiency. The Continuously Variable Valve Train system is a special Mid Position Lock unit that improves response.
The transmission has gear-holding technology that helps you enjoy tight corners more. Plus Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control (DTVC) delivers torque to the wheels that need it when you are on curves or turning at speed.
Last but not least, the 3.3T offers Launch Control. If you are familiar with these systems, you know that it is meant to increase acceleration times by minimizing wheel slip. It also allows the engine to maximize torque output for a faster take-off.
If the sound of a car is part of the experience to you, then you need to check out Active Sound Design. It creates a throatier response without disturbing the interior atmosphere. Engineers utilized sound settings to develop the best tones for all roads and conditions. Furthermore, the drive modes can be synchronized with the Active Sound Design system.
Ownership Costs
The G70 price is more affordable and offers more value than competitors. If you look at the Mercedes C-Class, you’ll easily pay $5,000 or more to get a package with fewer amenities and technologies. Likewise, the BMW 3-Series will ask for an extra $4,000 and the BMW package will fall short of the Genesis value.
Enhancing performance in the future, Genesis includes three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary standard scheduled maintenance. You won’t find many rivals with that much, if any, coverage.
The long five-year Limited warranty beats rivals by two years. The long Powertrain warranty runs for up to ten years, essentially doubling what other luxury brands offer.
