4 Things Drivers Should Know About the G70 vs G80 Luxury Sedans

How much does performance matter in your luxury car? Is the 2024 Genesis G70 or G80 a better buy for your automotive dollar? Here’s what drivers should know.

  1. 2.5 T Powertrain Comparison

With the upgrade for the Genesis G70 engine, it now has as much power as the G80. They both have 2.5T editions that produce 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Sporty rear-wheel drive adds to the experience of commanding the G70 sports sedan. As the slightly smaller one, the G70 is meant for driving fun, and it doesn’t disappoint. It is lighter than the G80 and can make even more of its horsepower and torque.

All-wheel drive gives the G80 an advantage that some shoppers may prefer. While less sporty, it does have torque vectoring to help you enjoy every corner at speed.

  2. 3.3T vs 3.5T Comparison

When you step up to the 2024 Genesis G70 3.3T, the engine is even more remarkable. It spits out 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for a Power Boost system, you can push a button and command 368 horsepower. This gives you a boost off the line or on the highway.

The Genesis G80 3.5T is even better equipped. It has a 375-horsepower engine that delivers 391 lb-ft of torque. You can add Power Boost to the G80 3.5T for an extra 3 horses of push off the line.

This premium model has standard all-wheel drive, which means it also has torque vectoring to handle curves and turns. Plus Genesis includes an adaptive suspension with road preview.

You’ll be happy to know that AWD, torque vectoring and the adaptive suspension are available on the G70 3.3T. Plus a limited slip electronic differential is available exclusively.

  3. Maneuverability, Handling and Parking

Both models are praised for their cushioned ride quality and sharp handling. 2024 Genesis G70 models always get a few more points for their sport demeanor. The adaptive suspension takes even more bump out of the ride, and its needed when the horsepower cranks up as it does on the 3.3T and 3.5T models.

The G80 is some 12 inches longer than the G70. It’s also about 3 inches wider. As such, the 2024 Genesis G70 is easier to maneuver in tight spaces. It has a tighter turning radius and can fit in smaller parking spaces.

When it comes to parking, the G70 has a rear cross-traffic alert as well as its rearview camera. However, the G80 starts out with front and rear parking aids.

Genesis offers even more parking aids, such as a surround view camera system and reverse automatic emergency braking. There’s also a remote parking assist to do the whole job for the driver.

  1. What’s the Driver’s Cockpit Like?

The driver’s cockpit is well-stocked regardless of your Genesis selection. However, the two sedans aren’t identical in looks.

When it comes to wiggle room, the G70 has about an inch less headroom than the G80. On the other hand, the G70 legroom is an inspiring 42.6 inches vs the G80 with 41.1 inches. Clearly both luxury sedans can seat tall people as needed.

For even more comfort, the driver has a power chair with memory. Power mirrors offer memory functions, too. The G80 has a standard power-adjustable steering wheel to add even more flexibility.

The 2024 Genesis G80 has a 14.5-inch touchscreen while the 2024 Genesis G70 has a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Both offer digital instrumentation as part of their most high-tech offerings. Dual zone climate controls and push button start are standards.

    Conclusion

If it comes down to the lowest price, the 2024 Genesis G70 will still make the owner very happy and the driver very confident. If you have flexibility, you can have fun looking at the 2.5T, 3.3T and 3.5T models as a continuum. Then you can choose the G70 or G80 that best suits your lifestyle and driving needs.
