The 2024 Genesis GV80 is a big luxury SUV with a distinctive character. A handsome exterior makes a promise that the premium interior delivers upon.
Elegant materials, the most sought-after features, and today’s technology load the cabin up with comforts and conveniences. Yet it remains stylishly uncluttered. Pleasing the driver, there are fast and faster powertrains on the menu.
This review takes a look at many different aspects of this big luxury SUV as it attempts to anticipate your questions. If you don’t find the answers you need here, please reach out to our Phoenix AZ Genesis dealership staff.
What’s New for 2024?
Since a Wi-Fi hotspot has become a must-have feature, you’ll find the available connectivity on every GV80. Five devices can log on simultaneously, ensuring that everyone can access content on their smart devices.
Ride comfort has been further optimized with a revised suspension. The classic Road Preview suspension allows the car to essentially see the road’s condition and alter the suspension to match. An advanced noise cancellation system assists the GV80’s extensive insulation and noise reduction measures.
The Prestige Signature trim has returned to take the top spot on the trim level ladder. Luxury shoppers will appreciate the elegant package it brings to the marketplace. The new look combines dark chrome trim with a choice of Mauna Red, Brunswick Green Matte, or Vik Black exterior colors.
How Fun is it to Drive?
When Genesis created its SUVs just a few years ago, the luxury automaker put an emphasis on performance. Drivers command 300 horsepower with the twin-turbo four cylinder. This standard powertrain kicks out 311 lb-ft of torque.
The twin-turbo V6 takes everything up another notch. Structural reinforcements are added to make sure the vehicle can handle the extra speed. Output is 375 horsepower from this gas powertrain. That’s assisted by 391 lb-ft of torque.
Car and Driver writes that the twin-turbo four can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 6.1 seconds. Trimming that down, the twin-turbo V6 made the same leap in just 5.3 seconds.
Helping drivers handle the speed with either engine, there are large vented brakes at the front and rear. An 8-speed automatic transmission is well-tuned to maximize every horse under the hood.
Is GV80 a 4WD SUV?
Genesis has upgraded all GV80s to standard all-wheel drive. So while it doesn’t have mechanical four-wheel drive, it has the better, lighter equivalent. Electronically controlled, Genesis AWD moves the torque to the rear wheels when it is needed for traction. This happens automatically without any input needed from the driver.
As Forbes Wheels has written, AWD allows for modest off-road capability. Drivers won’t hesitate to drive down a dirt road to a campsite. The luxury SUV stands tall with 8.1 inches of ground clearance.
How Big is the GV80?
The 2024 Genesis GV80 offers two-row and three-row configurations to allow you to choose more seats or more cargo area. Seating five, it offers 108.7 cubic feet of passenger volume.
Second row passengers can stretch out with almost 38.7 inches of legroom. That’s better than the BMW X5 (37.4 in) or Volvo XC90 (37 in)
Capable of swallowing a family’s luggage, the cargo hold is 34.9 cubic feet. Nearly doubling that, the folded seats provide 84 cubic feet of cargo area.
Seating seven, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced maintains the spacious second row and adds a third. You can get second-row captain’s chairs. The rear bench can split-fold to provide a seat while expanding the cargo area. Genesis makes it easy with the power-fold button.
What Are The GV80 2.5T Trim Levels?
The 2.5T standard package is quite generous. These models are packed with the infotainment features that luxury buyers should demand. A large 14.5-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The front power chairs have a power-heat function. Other favorite features include a power liftgate and a wireless charger.
Wrapped in leatherette, the upper instrument panel provides a soft touch surface. Ambient lighting and a lush leather-like upholstery create a rich ambiance. Every steering wheel has a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescopic capability.
The first leather edition is the Genesis GV80 2.5T AWD Advanced. This trim level has handsome leather upholstery. The cabin can be opened up with the panoramic sunroof. Ventilated seats keep the driver and front seat passenger cool on our hottest Phoenix AZ summer days.
ErgoMotion power-massage front seats are standard on the 2.5T Prestige trim. The second row seats are now covered by a third automatic climate control, and the individual outboard seats have a power-heat function. The standard 8-inch instrument display is upgraded to the full 12.3-inch 3D digital instrumentation.
What Are The GV80 3.5T Trim Levels?
The GV80 3.5T has everything you find on the 2.5T and more. For instance, ventilated seats are standard as well as 3.5T Advanced trims include the standard third row bench. The front seats have ErgoMotion and power ventilation. A Smart Posture Chair assists the driver. The dual power chairs can be programmed for walk-in capability.Folding and unfolding the third row is easy with power-fold capability. The Lexicon premium audio system and Ergo Motion driver’s seat are included.
Nappa leather upholstery adds an extra dash of elegance to the high quality interior in the 2024 GV80 3.5T Prestige trim. The driver enjoys a 3D digital instrument cluster as well as the large touchscreen and a power-adjustable steering wheel
The new Prestige Signature adds even more luxury with a suede headliner and Nappa leather. Rear seats in this four-seat model are power-ventilated and power adjustable. VIPs enjoy rear sunshades and power door closure.
What Driver Assistance Is Standard?
The 2.5T and 3.5T standard editions come packed with avoidance and assistance technologies. An avoidance assist, including an emergency autobrake, autosteer mechanism or both, are standard on the forward collision system, the lane keeper, and the blind spot watch.
Highway driving assist II is a semi-autonomous driving system that can handle long lonely stretches of highway like we often find in the Southwest. This combines smart cruise control with its slow-and-go capability and lane following assist.
In an exclusive move, the navigation system works with smart cruise control to handle the road better. These systems are informed by an intelligent speed limit assist.
Does It Come With Parking Assistance?
You only have to step up to the Advanced package to get a live-feed blind spot view monitor and the most sophisticated parking assistance. This includes a rear autobrake that helps the driver avoid trouble. A surround view monitor shows you everything around the large SUV.
Remote smart parking assist takes care of the entire process in or out of a tight spot. Even if you don’t step up to the Advanced trim, you have four rear parking sensors. The rearview camera sends its feed to your high-resolution display.A rear cross traffic alert is backed up by a collision-avoidance assist.
When a caregiver parks the SUV, they will hear a chime. This is to remind them to check the rear seat. The information can go to their smartphone to ensure they check for kids on the back row. A safe exit assist is meant to reduce the chances that you or a child will step out into traffic.
