7 WAYS TO COMPARE THE ACURA RDX vs GV70, ELECTRIC GV70

The GV70 earned Motor Trend SUV of the Year. Then along came the 2023 editions, including the electric GV70 with its amazing powertrain. Now the model year is 2024, and the GV70 lineup keeps pushing to the front of the class with even more standards.

The 2024 Acura RDX remains a contender, but the rivalry in this arena is hot. Here’s how to compare the Acura to the Genesis.

  1. SIZE AND COMFORT

Size is often a determining factor for shoppers, but these two SUVs are very similar. The 2024 RDX cabin has 104 cubic feet of passenger space while the GV70 has 103.6 cubic feet.

Cargo space is also similar. Electric GV70s offer 28.7 cubes, GV70s offer 28.9 cubes and RDX models offer 29.5 cubic feet in the cargo hold.

Second-row seating is spacious. GV70 models have 37.2 inches of 2nd row legroom while the eGV70 has 36.6 inches. Power chairs are standard, taking care of the driver and front seat passenger.

As for amenities, the Acura RDX and GV70 have lots of riches, including leather seats. However, the Genesis SUV has ventilated seats on more models, making it easier for Phoenix shoppers to get this important comfort for our hot summers.

Plus Genesis offers Ergo Motion massaging chairs to help you cope with a stressful day or a long trip. Then there’s the dual-zone automatic climate controls. They have a special touch capacity that makes them quick and easy to use. To get more details about trim levels, check out this new GV70 review.

  2. PERFORMANCE AND DRIVING

Luxury drivers tend to expect performance, but not all luxury SUVs are capable. In this case, the Acura RDX lineup can’t come close to what the Genesis lineup can do.

For several years, the Acura RDX has had one powertrain, a 4-cylinder turbo. This admirable machine generates 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. That is the one and only choice for the RDX, even for the higher trim levels with their higher price tags.

    Powertrain Comparison

GV70s have more choices. For starters, the Genesis 4-cyl turbo spits out 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. With the vibrant turbo V6, that output rises to 375 horsepower. Clearly the Genesis GV70 has driving dynamics that impressed Motor Trend, which named it 2022 SUV of the Year.

With the eGV70, there are two electric motors. The result is 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Plus this Genesis electric SUV has a boost mode that generates an extra 54 lb-ft. Car and Driver calls this performance “intoxicating”.

  3. EFFICIENCY AND LONG RANGE CAPABILITY

The eGV70 is totally electrified. No gas required. It has 249 miles of electric driving range. It is that rare SUV that offers the best of both worlds: performance and fuel efficiency.

If you are wondering how long it takes to charge, the 800-volt architecture supports fast charging in a way that many electric vehicles don’t. It can go from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes at a fast charger.

As for fuel economy, the higher horsepower Genesis and lower horsepower Acura actually earn the same gas mileage: 24 mpg combined. That’s 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Surprisingly, the turbo V6 GV70 is quite efficient. It earns 27 mpg on the highway. And that’s despite the incredible increase in horsepower. That’s the kind of luxury ride that most people are looking for.

  1. All Wheel Drive

New for 2024, the Acura RDX has added standard all-wheel drive. This was already standard on both Genesis GV70 and eGV70 models.

Genesis all wheel drive is an on-demand system. It doesn’t get in the way, just waits to see if it’s needed. This gives you the benefit of better traction whenever the sand or snow is challenging your tires. But it won’t slow you down when you are cruising in good weather.

With eGV70 all-wheel drive, the system is even more remarkable. This is due to the pair of electric motors that control the front and rear axles separately or together as needed for drivability and traction. This type of dual motor AWD is exclusive to electric vehicles.

  2. DASH TECH AND CONNECTIVITY

You’d think that these luxury vehicles would have modern dash technology. Yet you’ll find critics at Forbes noting that the RDX just isn’t as modern or futuristic as you’d think it would be for the money. Acura RDX screens are controlled by a touchpad. The system doesn’t have standard navigation, and it can’t be matched to a digital instrumentation panel. The largest screen is a 10.2-inch display.

In contrast, the Genesis 14.5-inch touchscreen is ahead of the curve. It has a split screen and standard navigation. Drivers can use a handy multi-media controller as well as voice commands.

Most Genesis GV70 models offer a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. This display has 3D to help your eyes find what’s important in the moment.

  1. HOW FUTURISTIC IS THE GV70?

We’ve already discussed how the Acura RDX is lagging behind the Genesis electric SUV when it comes to dash tech. This deficit continues when you look at the unique technologies that only Genesis has.

On the electric GV70, this includes biometrics. Did you know that you can use a fingerprint to start a car? The fingerprint authentication system can start your eGV70. It can even trigger a change in the seats and mirrors, setting them to your preference.

If you don’t like parking, the remote parking system has you covered. The Genesis SUV can park itself in parallel or perpendicular spaces. Even better, it can remove itself from those spaces. You can stay in the car or watch it from the sidewalk with your key in hand.

Semi-autonomous driving is possible with the Genesis Highway Driving Assist. You won’t find this type of capability on the 2024 Acura RDX. You can learn more about advanced driving features in this new electric GV70 review.

Last but not least, the Road Preview automatic suspension is a wonderful invention. This Genesis option will regulate the ride according to the view it gets from its multiple forward-facing cameras. Then it will alter the suspension before you hit that bump or go up a sharp hill. It is just another smart way to enjoy life in a luxury car.

  2. RATINGS AND VALUE

The 2024 Genesis GV70 continues to rank first among compact luxury SUVs at Kelley Blue Book and at US News and World Report.

Although the 2024 Acura RDX starts out cheaper, the tables quickly turn as shoppers must pay more for the features that are standard in the GV70 package. Plus shoppers could buy the top trim level of the Acura RDX and still drive away with less performance than the GV70. These are just some of the reasons that Kelley Blue Book has declared the GV70 a Best Buy among Compact Luxury SUVs.

Then there’s the difference in ownership coverage. Acura limited and powertrain warranties are 4 and 6 years respectively. Genesis has the best luxury warranties today. The 5-year limited provides up to an extra year of coverage. The 10-year powertrain warranty provides a remarkable four years more of possible coverage. Clearly Genesis helps keep down ownerships costs in a way that Acura simply doesn't.

    Conclusion

When you look at the GV70 and eGV70 from any angle, you can see these Genesis SUVs are simply better luxury rides than the 2024 Acura RDX. This is based on value as well as performance and luxury.
