The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent organization that annually tests vehicle safety and rates qualified vehicles as an IIHS Top Safety Pick or an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. To qualify as an IIHS Top Safety Pick, vehicles must undergo a battery of crash tests – Driver-Side Small Overlap Front, Passenger-Side Small Overlap Front, Moderate Overlap Front, Side, Roof Strength and Head Restraints. In addition to crash tests, the IIHS will test collision-prevention technology and headlight visibility.
